Big Steps~ Baby Steps

So I just read a blog written by my niece-in-law (not sure that's even a thing) and it was so cute so I decided to write my own. Let me introduce myself~my name is Paige and I am the mother of 6 boys and the wife of a former Army Sergeant, therefore we are the Army of Eight; get it? Please tell me that you get it :) My children range in age from 9-23. My husband and I have been married for almost 25 years and our life is INSANE to say the least. My 23 year old (TS) got home about a year ago from spending two years in Guatemala and is heading off to college on July 30. He and I are driving up to school, hopefully getting a job (for which he already applied) and get some classes signed up, officially he won't be a "full-time" student until January but a few night classes will help. He just finished a year at our local college so he is ready to move out and on (not so sure mom is ready though). My 20 year old (BR) is living in LA,CA on a mission for our church (the same reason his brother was is Guatemala). He is our computer guy so of course the week he left every computer we owned freaked out (guess they missed him as much as me). Work computer, home computer and one of our laptops crashed. Go figure!! He has almost been gone a year, so one more year and he will be home, well actually at college (he is pre-med). My 18 year old (DR) has decided he is an adult now that he is 18, but with age comes responsibility or more accurately financial responsibilities which he isn't digging too much :) He is the jock and if he isn't working he can be found at the basketball court with his posse! He will start college in August, he wants to be a lawyer because he is soooo good at arguing he ought to be the bomb! Next is my 15 year old (HS), he just had surgery on his leg so he has been instructed to take it easy, a 15 year old taking it easy ~ yeah right! Found out he played ultimate frisbee at Scout Camp-AWESOME!! Fortunately he came home muddy but unbroken. He will be starting his second year of HS this year, he is a swimmer on the HS team and likes to hang out with his swimmer buddies. My brilliant 13 year old (MD) is next, he is our linguist. He likes to use 5 dollar words in a 2 dollar house. He is a reader which accounts for his large vocabulary. He is constantly being teased by his brothers, even though I assure him it is a sign that they love him most :), but he ain't buying it! I am an avid reader so I'm glad I get to share my passion for reading with at least one of my children. My youngest is 9 (PD) and such a hoot. He is a constant source of amusement, as when he said "this is my real food tummy (making a half dollar size ring with his hands) and here is my junk food tummy (making a full arm circle) so I don't think I can eat any more dinner, but what's for dessert?" After 20 years in the military my hubby decided to make a career change and is presently in his last year of nursing school. I will finally get to have the job I've always wanted (trophy wife) cuz when he is done I am going to sit back, take care of my family and spend his money :D I have been working for the last 5 years for a church and today I decided to turn in my notice, after a little discussion I accepted the opportunity to stay and keep their books which will entail only about 5-8 hours a week. It's a sweet deal and I think we are both satisfied with this decision. It wasn't easy coming to that point but I have been doing school, off and on, for the last 25 years (I am currently on) and I have decided it's either time to tinkle or get off the potty so I am giving up everything but my family and school to graduate with my degree (sort of a useless degree but a degree never the less) in May (same time as my hubby). There have been a lot of changes in my life, kids leaving home, giving up long term jobs, and a move in the near future, so if you would like to come along for the ride you better buckle up because it is gonna be a wild one :)
